All DStv Error Codes and How to Clear Them

With every broadcast satellite network comes an error code.The error codes are programmed to notify you of errors and fix technical issues you may encounter with your DStv decoder or smartcard.

Getting familiar with all DStv error codes will assist you in going about how to clear them.

In Nigeria, you are more likely to see the following error codes:

  • E04 – Please Insert Smartcard
    You might have inserted your smartcard wrong slot smartcard or entered incorrectly.
    SOLUTION: Turn off the decoder, remove the smartcard, and clean it gently with a dried piece of cloth. Re-insert the smartcard. The chip should be facing downward while the arrow should be facing the decoder. If you keep getting this error code, you’ll need to restart your DStv decoder. If this problem persists, then the decoder and the Smartcard might be damaged and must be tested, visit any DSTV office close to you.
  • E05 and E34- Cannot Read Smartcard
    This error code could mean an incorrect smartcard was slotted in. It could also mean your smartcard is not valid for this country.
    It could also mean the smartcard has been inserted incorrectly and has absorbed dust.
    SOLUTION: You should remove the smartcard first. Wipe off any trace of dust you may find on it and re-insert it with the chip facing downwards and the arrow facing the decoder. Reboot the decoder. If E34 reappears, contact DStv toll-free lines.
  • E06 – Smart Card Faulty
    In this case, your smartcard is faulty or is slotted upside down. Try re-inserting the card with the chip facing downwards and the arrow facing the decoder.
  • E07 – Checking Smartcard
    This error code means the decoder is checking and examining the Smartcard.
    SOLUTION: If this message does not disappear after 40 seconds, remove the smartcard, wait for the E04 error code to pop up, then re-insert the smartcard.
    If E07 reappears, reboot your decoder. If E07 appears again, the decoder and Smartcard should be taken to any DStv office nearby for testing.
  • E08 – CA Module Failure
    CA is the Control Access, and this error code means the module is faulty.
    SOLUTION: kindly visit any DStv office close to you and have your decoder tested.
  • E14 – Service is Currently Scrambled
    This error code means network transmission might be on hold for a short while.
    SOLUTION: Tune to another channel and return to your previous channel. If this error code reappears, try rebooting your decoder. If the E14 message appears again, visit any DSTV office close to you or call the toll-free lines.
  • E16 – Service Currently Scrambled
    Satellite broadcast might be on hold temporarily.
    SOLUTION: Ensure that you do not have outstanding payments on your account. Go to menu, press 4 to check your mail messages. If you get a payment notification from DStv, then you need to make a payment to reactivate the service. If your account is not on hold, click on My Account to clear the error code. You can also remove this error code with the form on the right part of the DSTV website.
  • E17 – Smartcard Marriage Conflict
    Check if your smartcard is rightly slotted in the decoder. Do the following:
    SMS “E17 + smartcard number” to 32472 or Restart the service by logging into your account and selecting “reset the decoder.”
  • E18 – Unknown Smartcard
    You have inserted an incorrect Smartcard, or you did not slot the Smartcard correctly.
  • E19 and E30 – Service is Currently Scrambled. Please wait
    Your subscription might be expired. Wait for a few minutes for your subscription status to be verified. If the error code reappears after 2 minutes, renew your subscription or contact any of the DStv toll-free lines.
  • E35 – Service is Currently Scrambled
    This is a short-term failure in transmission reception. You can tune to another channel and then return to the previous channel. If the problem persists, reboot your decoder.
  • E37 – Invalid channel number
    The channel number you selected does not belong in this broadcast region. For a comprehensive list of all channels, press the DOWN arrow or press TV and select My Channels.
  • E38 – Program Map Table Not Available
    You should check that all cables from the satellite dish are connected well to the appropriate ports at the back of the decoder. Then turn the decoder off, wait for 10 seconds, then turn it on again. If the error persists, contact the DStv customer care service.
  • E38 – Service Not Running
    Carefully check all cables from the satellite dish to ensure they are firmly connected to the right ports usually on the back of the decoder. Then turn off the decoder and wait for 10 seconds before turning it on a second time. If you still get the error code contact the DSTV Call Center.
  • E42 – Parental Control PIN Blocked
    You get this error code if you’ve set your parental control levels and forgotten your PIN or entered a wrong PIN about five times. You will be required to login to enable a PIN reset.
  • E43 – Not for this country
    DStv is not permitted to broadcast this channel in your country, which is why it cannot view it.
  • E44 – No PG Status Is Available
    This channel is not available for viewing. You need to put in the right PG PIN to access it. If perhaps you have forgotten your PIN, contact the DSTV Customer Service.
  • E45 – Service Not Allowed
    This service is not approved. Please contact the DSTV Customer Care Service for help.
  • E50 – Service not available
    No channels are existing in the package you have selected. Please select another DStv package.
  • E70 – Services Not Available On TV2
    The channel is unavailable in your secondary broadcasting region. Check another channel.
  • E71 – Song Title and Artist Info Unavailable
    The Song title and Artist information are not available for viewing on the secondary viewing region. Preferably, use your primary viewing broadcast region.
  • E72 – Rescan in progress
    Your decoder is busy scanning. Hold on for the scan to be completed.
  • E73 – TV link overload
    Check your connection again or revisit your manual. Something could be wrong with the installation process.
  • E74 – LNB1 (Low Noise Block 1) Overload
    The TV1 LNB is experiencing some faults. Please re-check your connection or call a DSTV accredited installer for assistance.
  • E75 – LNB2 (Low Noise Block 2) Overload
    The TV2 LNB (Low Noise Block) has a problem. Re-check your connection or call a DSTV recognized installer for assistance.
  • E76 – Your TV2 Is Not Enabled. Please contact MultiChoice for assistance.
    TV2 is disabled. You are unable to view this channel. It could also mean your account has been suspended. Please contact the DSTV Customer Care for assistance.
